Fo this project, we where assigned to create a project involving water conservation, or create a method for water filtration. Our group chose to create a method for water comcervation. To do this, we designed a house that was water efficient. Our house incorporated aspects and ideas such as reusing "grey" water, and harvesting rain water. To make the grey water safer for plants we chose to incorporate cleaner soaps into our project. We used Dr. Bonner's soap because it is organic and biodegradable. To test how the some was when in comparison to normal water we tested the Ph levels of soap water, compared to normal water which has a Ph of 7. The Ph of the soapy water ranger between a Ph of 7 and 8 proving that it is a sustainable and healthy soap for watering plants. Next we chose to reuse grey water throughout our house. We did this by having sinks, showers, ext... go into toilettes, and irrigation to water plants. We also incorporated a butterfly roof into our house. Not only is a butterfly roof ascetically pleasing, but it is the most efficient method for collecting rain water off a roof. All these concepts and ideas used throughout our project, helped us build our house.
Content
Solution- a liquid mixture in which the minor component (the solute) is uniformly distributed within the major component (the solvent). Salute- he minor component in a solution, dissolved in the solvent. Electrolytes-a liquid or gel that contains ions and can be decomposed by electrolysis, e.g., that present in a battery. Non-electrolytes-a substance that does not exist in an ionic form in aqueous solution. Polarity-the way in which atoms bond with each other. When atoms come together in chemical bonding, they share electrons. A polar molecule arises when one of the atoms exerts a stronger attractive force on the electrons in the bond. Solubility-he ability to be dissolved, especially in water. Dissolving ions in solution-the solute separates into ions or molecules, and each ion or molecule is surrounded by molecules of solvent. Organic mater-matter that has come from a recently living organism. Bacteria- a member of a large group of unicellular microorganisms which have cell walls but lack organelles and an organized nucleus, including some which can cause disease Virus-an infective agent that typically consists of a nucleic acid molecule in a protein coat, is too small to be seen by light microscopy, and is able to multiply only within the living cells of a host an infective agent that typically consists of a nucleic acid molecule in a protein coat, is too small to be seen by light microscopy, and is able to multiply only within the living cells of a host Ph-a measure of hydrogen ion concentration, a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. Ph scale- acidity or alkalinity of water soluble substances (pH stands for 'potential of Hydrogen'). A pH value is a number from 1 to 14, with 7 as the middle (neutral) point. Values below 7 indicate acidity which increases as the number decreases, 1 being the most acidic. Particle Separation- Separation of particles or droplets from a flow is a field with a large number of applications in both industry and the environment.
Reflection
This project I felt like our group did a very good job at communicating. During the whole project our group did a good job at talking with each other, and we even went as far as to make a group chat on our phones so we could communicate with each other how we where doing, or any questions we had regarding the project. We also did a extremely good job at evenly spreading out the work between each member of our group. I feel like there was never a time that one member of our group was over loaded of stressed out about the project, this also help create a great working environment. Although our group worked well together, and was one of my favorite groups I've worked with this year, our group did have some faults. I felt like I could have worked harder at the beginning of the project, because I ended up rushing near the end of the project. I also felt like because this project had so much creative freedom, our group had trouble formulating ideas at the start of the project. We all had so many good ideas for water conservation it was hard to choose just one. Overall our group worked extremely well together and it was a fun project to work on.
