For the first part of this project we made a solar powered water heater. Are group thought that the best method for heating the water would be to get a big card board box and cover the sides with aluminum foil, to reflect the sunlight into the cup of water which we where trying to heat. On the floor of he cardboard box we chose to put black paper. The reason we chose to put black paper on was because black attracts the sun and heat. We coverd the sides of the box in foil and angled them to reflect the most sunlight on to the cup. Inside of the cups we had coppor pipes because copper is a great conductor of heat.
Day lighting techniques and experimental house
For the next part of this project we focused on day lighting techniques for getting the maximum amount of light into are tiny house. We started with looking at day lighting stratiges like south facing windows, light shells and soar tubes. We made are modle house out of card board and scaled it one inch to one foot. When making the house we wanted to make the most amount of natural light in as possible
Maters test lab
This part of the project we tested different materials heat capacity to figure what we would want are house to be made off. Heat capacity is the amount of energy a certain object can hold. An object with a low heat capacity temperature will rise and fall very quickly, and a object with a high heat capacity temperature will stay relatively the same. To test this we put different material under a heat lamp and tracked the temperature to see the rate that the temperature rose of fell, telling us the heat capacity
Tiny house project
Now for this part of the project we where building a small home using all the solar techniques we just learned. We had to blue print the detentions of the house and presented it to the class.
Wind turbines
Now that we have are house blue printed we needed electricity in are house. For this project we made mini wind turbines to make electricity for are house. This project was harder than I thought though because we hade such a small wind source because we where running off of small fans. This meant we needed to make the fans small, so it could cache as much wind as possible
Content
radarion- the administration of energy in electromagnetic waves or moving subatomic particles
conduction- the process where heat or electricity is transmitted through a substance
installation- a layer of something holding in hot or cold temperatures
solar angles- in summer time the light rays are more vertical making the suns light brighter and hotter than the winters. The reason the winters are cooler is because the suns rays are are more horizontal and less direct than summers.
light shelves-
clearstory window
solar tubes
skylights
south facing windows- it it good to have south facing windows because that's where the most sunlight comes in
heatcapacity- the amount of energy used to rase the temperature of an object
Reflection
On this project I felt like are group did a really good job off collaboration and helping each other out. For example we where having ta hard time making the blue prints and the pricing list. When members in are group realized this we all helped each other out to finish the project. Something that I would have changed about this project is some days we where off task, and something we focused on one task instead of spreading out the work.
