For this project we where assigned to solve a world problem using biotechnology. We choose to solve the problem of oil spills. We thought that we would the best ways to fix oil spills would be to use bacteria that actually "eats" oil. The only problem about this bacteria is that is cant live in colder waters. Our plan is to genetically engineer the bacteria to live in colder temperatures.
Microbes- a microorganism, including bacteria. We planned to genetically modify bacteria, which are microbes. Biotechnology- The use of biological organisms for commercial or other problem solving purposes. We used biotechnology to help cleana up oil spills more efficiently. Hydrocarbons- Organic compound of hydrogen and carbon. Some bacteria break down the hydrocarbons in oil as a source of carbon. Crispr-stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats, which are the hallmark of a bacterial defense system that forms the basis for CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing technology. Controlled Experiment- An experiment with only one change or variable. We are doing a controlled experiment to find the best fit bacteria species. Ocean water temperatures- Different areas in the Ocean are different tempretures Enzyme-a substance produced by a living organism that acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction. Genetic Engineering-the deliberate modification of the characteristics of an organism by manipulating its genetic material.
For this project I felt like are group did a really good job at communicating and deciding how are work would be spread out and who did what. We created a group chat where we would talk about what we would do for the project and what we where confused about. I also felt like we did a good at managing are time, we got all of are work done pretty quickly and done on time. One thing I felt like we could have done a better job at was improving are work when we finished it. We finished with some time to spar and we kinda sat around for a little instead of making are already pretty good project even better. I also feel like we kinda "burned out" and really had trouble staying on task and doing the work that we where suppose to be doing on the last few days we had the project
